I am a psychologist in Chicago. My services include individual, couples, and family therapy, as well as psychological testing, hypnosis, and biofeedback. My clinical experience includes hospital psychiatric wards, private and group practice, children's psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, and residential alcohol and drug treatment centers.
I was initially trained in clinical hypnosis before entering graduate school for psychology. I have over a decade of experience with this therapeutic modality for treating a number of problems.
I have extensive experience with rehabilitation psychology and biofeedback and mind-body techniques for pain management at the the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago). I have taught in graduate schools, and I serve in leadership roles in the Chicago Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis. and the American Psychological Association's Division 30. I have presented at the American Psychological Association, the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and the Chicago Society of Clinical Hypnosis.
I approach services with your needs in mind. I see a broad range of individuals from all walks of life and varied beliefs. I create a space where you are able to express yourself from your perspective, and to establish which interventions in psychotherapy or assessments are needed.
Ultimately, psychological services begin in and maintain a conversation. This is not to say that there is no "rhyme or reason" to the process, but the process is connected to what your needs are, and what your overall goals are.

As you can deduce, I work a lot with mind/body techniques. These include mindfulness, relaxation training, guided imagery, biofeedback, and clinical hypnosis.
Mind/body techniques can be used as stand alone techniques for presenting problems, and I often use them to help with the process of psychotherapy and counseling. Perhaps the most powerful of these is clinical hypnosis.
There are a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis, not the least of which have been created throughout history by the media, or through the perception of it because of the work of stage hypnotists, who use it for entertainment purposes.
Many people believe that hypnosis means a lack of control on the part of the participant. But the reverse is actually what takes place: you become more in control of your internal responses to thoughts, memories, and perceptions. This control can help with problem solving, learning new skills, or working through traumas.
I work with a broad spectrum of clients. I like to work with people who have a creative background; we all tend to understand people who are like us. But my job is to understand as wide a number of individuals as possible, and I sense that I do that pretty consistently. That is statistically the biggest chunk of what makes psychotherapy work, and it certainly helps with assessing your issues as well.
You might be wondering: are psychologists born that way? The answer to that question, like many answers in life, is yes and no.
Before stepping into this field, I spent many years working as an actor and musician, and I hold an undergraduate degree in fine art. Because of this background, I love to work with people on creative issues. These can include creative blocks, such as performance anxiety, and enhancement of abilities.
Keep in mind that when I use the word creativity, it can mean both the “big creativity” such as the arts, but it also can be an aspect of working in other fields.
Enhancement of ability by increasing a state of openness can help with business, sports, and other activities. Openness to new ways of seeing can greatly enhance results in psychotherapy as well. My dissertation research was in creativity and hypnotizability.
Short answer: no. In reality, everyone has a creatve aspect to them. Creativity enhancement can help individuals from all walks of life enrich their work and learn skills to positively impact their personal lives.
