Change can be challenging and complex, often bringing feelings of confusion, grief, and hopelessness. My passion is to offer a person-centered, strengths-based approach to help you navigate these difficult situations. I provide a space for you to share your story, aiming to enhance your awareness and view your experiences with openness, interest, and receptiveness.
Seeking support can be a difficult decision. I am here to listen to your story and provide you with a safe and supportive environment. As we work together, we will explore coping skills, reflection, living authentically, and progressing towards your values. I offer a multicultural, and LGBTQI+ affirming perspective to counseling, taking into consideration the whole person and social context. I offer services in Portuguese and English.
I was born and raised in Brazil and received my Bachelor’s degree in applied psychology from New York University (NYU). Before I decided to become a clinical counselor, I delved into research exploring mother-infant interactions, language, and attachment. I am passionate about interpersonal relationships and helping my clients foster more adaptive ways of dealing with conflict.
I received my Master’s degree in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT). There, I completed my internships in two community mental health agencies. I dealt with youth experiencing trauma and anger, including those in the criminal justice system and families involved with the Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS). Furthermore, I provided therapy and community support to adults with disabilities, helping them develop coping skills, raise awareness, strive towards their values, and fully participate in the community.
I have a person-centered approach to therapy, where we collaborate to further your personal goals. We often bury or feel guilty for our emotions, not realizing that this causes more harm in the long-term. Throughout our work together, I will validate your emotions and help you embrace rather than fight against them.
In addition, I integrate psychoanalysis, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical and Behavioral Therapy (DBT) into sessions. While providing a safe and non-judgmental space, these approaches aid clients in engaging with mindfulness, interpersonal skills, and behaviors aligned with your values. They help to reduce inner conflict, and help to increase your self-understanding and acceptance.
Through my specialization in Rehabilitation and Mental Health Counseling, I support individuals with disabilities and those adjusting to new life circumstances. I also work with children, adolescents, and adults of all ages, using a collaborative approach to understand your unique goals and needs as a client. Moreover, I assist individuals in leading fulfilling lives amidst change, challenges, and interpersonal conflicts. My primary focus is on cultivating a safe, genuine, and supportive environment where you can freely share your story and be yourself.
