Thank you for visiting my page. Finding a trustworthy psychologist can be a lengthy, and confusing process. I hope this page helps you to understand my services better so that you can make the right choice in working with me.
I approach services with your needs in mind. I see a broad range of individuals from all walks of life and varied beliefs. I create a space where you are able to express yourself from your perspective, and to establish which interventions in psychotherapy or assessments are needed.
Ultimately, psychological services begin in and maintain a conversation. This is not to say that there is no "rhyme or reason" to the process, but the process is connected to what your needs are, and what your overall goals are.
aI am a participant in the PsyPact. This legislation allows me to work remotely via teletherapy with patients in participating states.

I’m a licensed clinical psychologist based in Chicago, with licenses to practice in Illinois, New Mexico, and most other states through the Interstate Compact for Psychologists. I also work with ex-pats overseas via teletherapy.
My services include:
My clinical experience spans hospital psychiatric wards, private and group practices, children’s psychiatric hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, and residential alcohol and drug treatment centers.
I was first trained in clinical hypnosis before entering graduate school and have over twenty years of experience using this approach to help people with a variety of concerns.
I also have extensive experience in rehabilitation psychology, as well as in utilizing biofeedback and mind-body techniques for pain management, particularly through my work at the Shirley Ryan Ability Lab (formerly the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago).
I’ve taught psychology at the graduate level and served in leadership roles with organizations like the Chicago Society of Clinical Hypnosis, the Society of Clinical and Experimental Hypnosis, and as past president of the APA’s Division 30. I’ve presented at national and international conferences, including as a keynote speaker in India.
I’m here to help you find support, insight, and practical strategies for moving forward.
As you probably can guess, I work extensively with mind-body techniques. These include mindfulness, relaxation training, guided imagery, biofeedback, and clinical hypnosis.
Mind/body techniques can be used as standalone techniques for presenting problems, and I often use them to help with the process of psychotherapy and counseling. Perhaps the most powerful of these is clinical hypnosis.
There are a lot of misconceptions about hypnosis, not the least of which have been created throughout history by the media, or through the perception of it because of the work of stage hypnotists, who use it for entertainment purposes.
Many people believe that hypnosis means a lack of control on the part of the participant. But the reverse is actually what takes place: you become more in control of your internal responses to thoughts, memories, and perceptions. This control can aid in problem-solving, learning new skills, or working through traumatic experiences.
I work with a broad spectrum of clients. I enjoy working with people who have a creative background; we tend to understand each other better when we share similar experiences. However, my job is to understand as many individuals as possible, and I believe I do that fairly consistently. That is statistically the most significant component of what makes psychotherapy effective, and it also helps with assessing your issues.
You might wonder: Are psychologists born that way? The answer to that question, like many answers in life, is yes and no.
Before entering this field, I spent many years working as an actor and musician, and I hold an undergraduate degree in Fine Art. Due to this background, I enjoy working with people on creative projects. These can include creative blocks, such as performance anxiety, and enhancement of abilities.
Keep in mind that when I use the word “creativity,” it can refer to both the “big creativity,” such as the arts, and also to an aspect of working in other fields. Enhancing one's ability by increasing a state of openness can be aided in various activities, including business and sports. Openness to new ways of seeing can significantly enhance outcomes in psychotherapy as well. My dissertation research was on creativity and hypnotizability.
Short answer: no. In reality, everyone has a creative aspect to them. Creativity enhancement can help individuals from all walks of life enrich their work and acquire skills that positively impact their personal lives.
